Portraits of Strangers

Everyone has a unique character and personality. The portrait gives us the opportunity to celebrate the feelings, expressions and emotions of a human being in a context. Adding spoken detail and location will give the rounded picture.

This gentleman, sitting on his plastic chair in the Palermo Open Market, loves watching the busy street life.

We called into a small wine shop in Noto, Sicily to buy a bottle of wine. Dr Tesol Aurelio had a wide selection of bottles and casks - it proved to be a worthwhile visit!!

Markets can be rewarding in many ways. Here in Palermo Open Market a fishmonger was slicing large pieces of fresh swordfish.

Ian and Jayne come down from Bristol about once a month for a cold water swim in the marine lake Clevedon. It was opened in 1929. Today was the first time Ian had worn his hat and said it was a lot warmer. The feet get cold first but afterwards Jayne explained that it is very invigorating and the body gets a 'lobster tan'

Portrait of a Sea Angler on Clevedon Pier

Bill is a Geordie who moved to Gloucester in the forces.

He drives down regularly to the pier and is a member of the Clevedon Pier Sea Angling Club.

Today he has just caught a codling and will go home with a smile on his face. He is a "fine weather fisherman when nothing comes out of the sky" and when he doesn't draw a blank.

Bill prefers to buy his fish from the supermarket to avoid all the mess.

I walked along the main street in Flagstaff, Arizona and noticed the open door of the hairdressers. Two wonderful characters in a small salon and they both gave permission  to take their portrait in a wonderful authentic setting.

The Edwardian Photographer. He has all the authentic clothes and the film camera and in the summer enjoys "dressing up" to attend specific events which celebrate the Edwardian Era.
